So, who owns the San Antonio Spurs? The current owner of the Spurs franchise is Peter J. Holt. He is the son of Peter Holt, who ran the team from 1996 until he retired in 2016. Peter Holt paid $76 million dollars for the franchise back in 1996. The team was originally founded by Holt’s father-in-law, Angelo Drossos, in 1967.

Peter Holt was a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, and he also served in the United States Army. He was a member of the NBA Board of Governors and serves on the board for USAA. In addition to being the owner of The San Antonio Spurs, Holt was also the CEO and Chairman for Holt Cat, one of the world’s largest Caterpillar dealerships.

Under the Holt’s ownership, the San Antonio Spurs have won five NBA championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2014). The ownership group is considered one of the best in all of sports given the franchises sustained success.

According to Forbes, as of the 2022-2023 season, the San Antonio Spurs are worth $2.0 Billion. This makes them the 20th most valuable National Basketball Association (NBA) franchise.

The San Antonio Spurs are an American professional basketball team based in San Antonio, Texas. The Spurs compete in the National Basketball Association (NBA) as a member of the league’s Western Conference Southwest Division. The team plays home games at the AT&T Center in downtown San Antonio.

The Spurs began playing as an expansion team in 1967 under the Dallas Chaparrals of the American Basketball Association (ABA). They joined the NBA in 1976 after four ABA seasons. The franchise has won five NBA championships, their first coming in 1999 and they’re most recent in 2014.

The San Antonio Spurs have had some great rivals over the years, especially over the past two decades, or so. Perhaps their biggest rival has been the Los Angeles Lakers, as they’ve met in the playoffs an astounding seven of times. Other big rivals have included the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, and Oklahoma City Thunder. The Spurs have also had some great individual rivals, including Kobe Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Russell Westbrook.

The Spurs have had many successful players, including George Gervin, David Robinson, Manu Ginóbili, Tony Parker, and Tim Duncan. Duncan is considered by many to be one of the greatest power forwards of all time.

Their head coach for those five championship teams was legend Gregg Popovich, who is considered one of the best coaches in NBA history. As of 2023, he has coached the team for 27 season and is one of the biggest reasons for their sustained success for almost three decades.
