What Do They Call American Football In England?

Although American football is relatively new in the United Kingdom, it has already developed a devoted following. Often simply referred to as “American Football,” the sport is most popular in the larger cities, where there are more American expatriates. In recent years, several British Universities have started American football teams, and there are now several amateur leagues in operation.

The sport also gains exposure through television, with several British channels broadcasting live games from the National Football League. While the sport is still far from being as popular as traditional football (soccer), it is clear that it has significantly impacted the British sports landscape.

NFL’s Expansion Into Europe

Since the NFL’s inception, American football has been one of the most popular sports in the United States. In recent years, however, the sport has also begun to gain popularity in Europe. This is due in part to the NFL’s expansion into the continent. The first NFL game was played in London in 2007, and since then, the league has held multiple games in cities such as Berlin in Germany.

As a result of this increased exposure, European fans have become more interested in the sport. In addition, many European players have begun to sign with NFL teams. As the sport grows in popularity overseas, the NFL will likely continue to expand its presence in Europe.

What Was NFL Europe?

NFL Europe was a developmental football league owned and operated by the National Football League (NFL). The league was founded in 1991 as the World League of American Football before transitioning to NFL Europe in 1995. It featured six teams from across Europe, including the Frankfurt Galaxy, Barcelona Dragons, Amsterdam Admirals, Rhein Fire, Scottish Claymores, and London Monarchs.

The league served as a training ground for aspiring NFL players and coaches, with many of its participants going on to have successful careers in the NFL. Unfortunately, the league ultimately folded in 2007 due to financial difficulties. Nevertheless, NFL Europe left a lasting legacy on the sport of American football, and its impact is still felt today.
