What Is The NHL Skills Competition?
The National Hockey League Skills Competition is an annual event that takes place during All-Star Weekend. The competition consists of six events, each testing a different skill required to play the game of hockey.
The six events are the Puck Control Relay, the Passing Challenge, the Accuracy Shooting Challenge, the Hardest Shot Challenge, the Save Streak Challenge, and the Breakaway Challenge.
Events
Puck Control Relay is a timed event in which each participant must skate around a set of cones before passing the puck off to the next player in line. The aim of this event is to test a player’s agility and puck-handling skills.
Passing Challenge is another timed event in which each participant must complete a series of passes to targets of varying sizes and distances. The aim of this event is to test a player’s passing accuracy.
Accuracy Shooting Challenge is also a timed event in which each participant must attempt to hit as many targets as possible in 60 seconds. The aim of this event is to test a player’s shooting accuracy.
Hardest Shot Challenge is a contest to see who can shoot the farthest puck. This event tests a player’s strength and shot power.
Save Streak Challenge is a goaltending competition in which each goaltender must make as many saves in a row as possible. This event tests a goaltender’s concentration and ability to make quick reflex saves.
Breakaway Challenge is a skills competition in which each participant must attempt to score on a goaltender from different positions on the ice. This event tests a player’s creativity and scoring ability.
ESPN Now Owns The NHL Broadcasting Rights
Previously, NBC owned the rights to NHL games but decided not to renew their contract. ESPN stepped in and took over, much to the delight of hockey fans everywhere. As of 2021, ESPN now owns the rights to NHL games, meaning fans can tune in to watch their favorite team play on ESPN channels.
I believe this is good news for hockey fans because ESPN is one of the most widely-watched networks in the world. That means more people will be able to see NHL games than ever before. And, since ESPN is available in many countries, this will also give international fans a chance to catch NHL action.
