Potential Blockbuster On The Horizon?
According to a report from ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Washington Nationals could look to trade outfielder Juan Soto sometime in the not-so-distant future. Olney was quoted as saying:
“At 23 years old, Soto is already a superstar, and there aren’t any comparable examples of hitters of his stature being dealt at such a young age. But rival execs say the Nationals might well be compelled — and motivated — to move Soto this summer. If they’re not going to sign him [to a long-term deal], then they’ll need to trade him,” one evaluator said. “The question is: When.”

The 23-year-old Soto is one of the game’s brightest young stars, and he’s under contract through 2025. However, with the Nationals facing a thin roster and a potential half a billion-dollar contract, they may need to move some salaries and Soto could be one of the casualties.
Soto has been a breakout megastar since he burst onto the scene in 2018 while posting a ridiculous career .428 OBP. The scary part is he’s not done developing, and any team that acquires the young star will be getting a franchise cornerstone.
If the Nationals do decide to trade Soto, they’ll undoubtedly receive a massive haul in return. It’s unclear who they would target in a trade, but it’s likely that they would look for young, controllable players in return.
What do you think a potential Soto trade would look like? Where do you think he could be traded?
