Red Sox Have Clawed Their Way Back To .500

Red Sox Leap Anaheim In The Standings With Sundays Win

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Oakland Athletics today 5-2 with a great start from Rich Hill and the power of Franchy Cordero. This puts the team back at .500 on the season after starting slow and digging a hole in the standings.

It was a close game, with Frankie Montas escaping trouble on multiple occasions. But with two out in the sixth, with two on, Franchy Cordero came through with an opposite-field homer.

Franchy has been a revelation since being called up in May, showing that he worked at AAA to improve his game. His at-bats have been much better, and he has come through with clutch homers that have swung games in the Sox’s favor.

Sunday was a big win for the Red Sox, who are now in control of a playoff spot after the Phillies hit a walk-off with two outs in the ninth to hand the Angels their eleventh loss in a row.

Ironically enough, the Red Sox will play a four-game series starting Monday against Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani, and the struggling Angels. Game time is 9:38 pm on NESN.
