Your thumb should also be placed under the ball but closer to the seam than your other fingers. This grip will cause the ball to spin less than a four-seam fastball, but it will still have plenty of movement; if you want a fastball with movement, this is your pitch.

Throwing Motion

Once you have chosen the grip you want to use, it’s time to start working on your throwing motion. The first thing you’ll want to do is cock your arm back behind you. As you cock your arm back, make sure that your elbow is pointing downwards and that your hand is close to your ear. This will give you the most power possible when you throw the ball.

From this position, begin your forward motion and release the ball when your arm is fully extended. As you release the ball, snap your wrist forward to increase the speed of the pitch. Follow through with your throwing arm after you release the ball to ensure that you put all your energy into the pitch.

1. Use Your Entire Body

Your legs, trunk, and arm all work together when you throw the ball to generate power. Make sure you’re using your whole body by keeping your feet shoulder-width apart and your knees bent. As you wind up, rotate your hips and trunk, and as you release the ball, snap your wrist.

2. Follow Through

Once you’ve released the ball, don’t stop your arm mid-swing. Instead, follow through with your arm, so it points toward your target, which will help you generate more power and accuracy.

3. Use Momentum
